Summary of Part 1
The protagonist of Things Fall Apart is introduced as Okonkwo a very prideful man and the strongest of his village Umuofia in Nigeria. In pert one the story of how okonkwo rose to power is explained. The way he rose to power through defeating his opponents, different from what in todays American society there is democratic elections were people are chosen to lead. The setting is introduced in an Ibo village called Umuofia one of the most feared villages in the land. Customs of Umuofia are revealed upon as the yam festival and wrestling matches to prove the strongest man in the village. The yam festival can be seen as a holiday in today's world and the wrestling match is similar to big sporting events were people gather and cheer. One custom that happens in the early part of the book was the exchange of a member of another tribe because they killed a member of the Ibo village of Umuofia. A different custom then in today’s world, but the child is later returned to its first tribe. This custom can be viewed as a way of peace between the tribes, which compares to today where if one commits murder, one serves time in jail. And the protagonist, Okonkwo, fathers the child that was exchanged. Character traits of Okonkwo are revealed by the way he treats his family members and when he kills the exchanged child. Towards the end of part one Okonkwo is exiled for killing a man and his family by accidentally making the gun go off. He is exiled for seven years from Umuofia. Many of his possessions were destroyed by the crowds of people who were upset with him.

The second part of things fall Apart is after Okonkwo is exiled, and his family and him go to his mother’s homeland Mbanta. He is welcomed into the land and starts to build their new home and farm. While in the land Okonkwo learns about the missionaries and how many people in Nigeria have converted to the faith of Christianity. Time passes as Okonkwo experiences change and views change in the villages. Okonkwo learns of the white missionaries and their iron horses that are actually bikes. The Igbo people view objects differently then what we view them describe them as an animal a living being, Overtime more people begin to convert to Christianity and there is less and less natives following the customs.
Summary Part 3
Okonkwo returns to Umofia after the end of his seven-year exile, no celebration is made when he returns. Instead Okonkow is met with his son Nwoye and learns that his son has converted to Christianity so he wants nothing of his son. Okonkwo try’s to speak to the missionaries with other people and then gets jailed for days until village people bay the ransom. Ironic that the missionaries captured the tribe leaders when they went to go help people change their life. This is similar to the jail system in the U.S were people pay to get out of jail till their trial,they pay a bond. After the tribe leaders are freed they have a war council were okonkwo kills a messenger. Okonkwo realizes that his people do not want to go to war and commits suicide by hanging himself.
